Nowadays, plastic products are ubiquitous in our lives, appearing in shopping malls, schools, stations, and even on the streets. The applications of plastic products are extensive, and the types of plastics used often vary depending on their application. Different types of plastics have different compositions. So, do you know what the components of plastics are? Let's find out together.
Generally speaking, the main component of plastic is synthetic resin, in addition to some auxiliary materials, such as plasticizers, stabilizers, lubricants, colorants, fillers, etc. Selecting different materials and proportions results in plastics with varying properties.
1. Synthetic resin: This is the main component of plastic, accounting for 40%–100% of the material. Due to its high proportion, it determines the main properties of the plastic. However, because of the high proportion of synthetic resin, some people consider plastic and resin to be the same thing, which is incorrect. Synthetic resin, besides being used to produce plastics, can also be used in the production of synthetic fibers and coatings.
2. Plasticizer: Adding this substance during plastic production increases the softness and plasticity of the plastic, reduces brittleness, and makes it easier to process and shape. This material is commonly used in the production of phthalates and is a non-toxic, odorless, and stable organic compound under light and high-temperature conditions.
Stable in properties.
3. Stabilizer: This substance prevents the decomposition of synthetic resin during processing and use due to light and heat, thus preventing the plastic from being damaged and extending its lifespan.
4. Lubricant: When using molds to produce plastics, the plastic may stick to the mold surface. Using a lubricant effectively prevents this, and also increases the smoothness of the plastic surface.
5. Colorant: As the name suggests, it gives plastics different colors, enhancing their aesthetics.
6. Filler: Also known as a filling agent, it can improve the strength and heat resistance of plastics to some extent, and its price is lower than that of synthetic resin, thus reducing costs.
In short, plastic products are not made from a single material, but from several materials in different proportions.
